Ben Franklin once said:
"I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer." (Source: http://nickelkid.net/quotes/franklin.html)
Ben had it right, in this country we make the poor too comfortable in their poverty. I am not saying that we should not help the poor but instead of keeping them in a cycle of poverty via entitlement programs we should via other programs welfare to work, retraining, etc give them the ability to get out of their poverty and if they choose not to do so then the line is cut.

Personal Responsibility
Long time no post, well that is going to start changing with at least weekly posting to this blog, as a father of four and a full time professional it is hard to find a spare moment. I guess that is how a lot of us feel who do not rely on the government to take care of us for our WHOLE lives.
Which I guess could be a great segue into this weeks posting about Personal Responsibility. Yes I said those two words that almost every individual in the world hates. My oh my how many societal problems could be solved by men and women being more responsible for their actions. From drunken driving, to Abortion, and a host of other topics as well.
“Nobody ever did, or ever will, escape the consequences of his choices.”
- Alfred A. Montapert quotes (American motivational Author)
Not exact sure who this gentleman is but he has a good point. So many of us in this day and age believe our circumstance to be the fault of someone or something else. The truth is we have no further than the mirror to look at who is really to blame. Every day that goes by a person makes a choice that for better or worse dictates the direction of their lives.
As we go through our lives let us hope to ask ourselves if in every day choices we make and things we say, is it the responsible thing to do, is this within my sphere of influence, what is my role in this? All good questions.
In being responsible for your own actions and words you become part of the solution to so many things plaguing our world, in continuing the cycle of irresponsibility and immaturity you continue to be part of the problem and a symbol of everything that is wrong with society at large.

Obama & Big Government
Well, It looks like my friends on the left are getting all they hoped for and more. Look at Obama's campaign promises and you will see he is trying hard to deliver on all of them within short order.
The one that personally irks me more then any of the others is the potential nationalization of health care. In all countries that have followed this approach it has led to a system that is not worth using. In England, where a friend of my wife's lives her friend went to a doctor to get help with a condition she had, she was given some pamplets and told there was not much more they could do for her. Here that type of answer would never fly, unless Obama and his cronies have their way.
They are already doing their best to transform our goverment into a nanny state with every sector reliant on the goverment. Remember people the more power you give up to the government, the more power you lose. This is OUR government (WE the PEOPLE) not we the politicians. I for one am sick and tired of them acting like they own the government and can run rough shod over the people.
I am sick enough of it, I hope you get there soon too. This country, no matter what your leanings are I hope can see we need a revolution of sorts, to get the power back into the peoples hands.

Carter in Syria to see Hamas political leader - Yahoo! News
Former US President Jimmy Carter should be arrested for treason as soon as he sets foot back on US soil; his contstant support for the palestinian terror groups and especially of Hamas amount to nothing but treason. He needs to remember he is a FORMER president; his words and actions have no bearing on the present geopolotical scene he is just comforting his supporters who are prodominatly arab....

Some gay couples are having trouble obtaining divorces - Yahoo! News
As a center to right leaning independent I find the article below interesting. The "Gay" lobby is pushing so hard for "Gay Marriage" yet when they get it, they are not so sure they wanted to be married after all.
This is not so different from hetrosexual marriage. I believe the problem lies more in this feel good culture that we live in. Namely, I want to do what feels good to me, not what is socially responsible.
From the homosexual side a great many reason exist for not allowing homosexual marriage. One being it is a deviant act. The human form, whether you recognize a supreme being or not, was purposed for opposite sex relationships, not same sex ones. The arguement has been made that homosexual actions exist in nature in different animals, however, we are not animals, even though we sometimes behave like them.
Do I feel sorry for those seeking a divorce but cannot get one? Not in the least, they should not be legally married anyway.
